Ageing is considered an invariable reality of life and the root cause of mortality. For millennia humanity has dreamed of escaping its effects. Apart from maintaining a youthful state, there are good reasons for wanting to control the ageing process: ageing is the common risk factor for some of the deadliest diseases, including cancer, heart attack, and stroke. It underpins degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s, arthritis, and diabetes, which severely affect our quality of life.
